The Inauguration of the New Owners of O'Cajcen Seafood

That's right folks...you read it right. It is time for me to step down. It been 5 years since I opened the doors of O'Cajcen but my time has run out. Many of you know I was on the verge of closing the restaurant in December but chose to keep it open to allow everyone one last tast of O'Cajcen Seafood's award winning crawfish and other Cajun favorites.

I feel a little sad that I'm passing on my baby but at the same time happy that I could bring joy to many people's lives...especially the ones who said they couldn't find food from "back home" anywhere else. That was a huge compliment. I really want to thank everyone especially the ones who have been so faithful and the many who have been coming since we opened.

Ok...ok...enough of the mushy stuff. In a weird turn of events, this past week I was approached by someone who you are already familar with that wanted to purchase the restaurant and wanted to carry on the tradition of O'Cajcen Seafood and hopefully bring it up to a new level that I was unable to since I am gone. This couple already knows the restaurant inside and out and are ready to serve you.

I'm glad to announce the 2nd owner of O'Cajcen Seafood is none other than my sister and her husband Lisa and Shane Chaney. That's right...my sister has been working at O'Cajcen for the past 3 yrs (?) and Shane has been helping her on and off. Many people actually thought he was I. With them being there and more hands on, they will be able to listen to your concerns and be able to improve on your experience at O'Cajcen. They are both open minded and want to hear your opinions.

As for me, I will be in Louisiana work as an electrical engineer for Fluor for a couple more months. I'm currently looking at what my next business adventure will be and I'm sure this won't be the last time you hear from me. Of course I'll be still helping out now and then but for the most part, Lisa and Shane will be there to help you.

If you would like to keep up with my adventures, subscribe to this blog. I'll be posting often to it. Again, thanks for everything and I hope you enjoy O'Cajcen even more, I know Lisa and Shane will be happy to have ya' in.

Please leave any comments below about anything, the restaurant, suggestions, life, other comments.

P.S. Last week I sent an email about the announcement of crawfish coming in. Its true, but I accidentally put my personal cell phone in the email instead of the restaurants. I wish I could sell you some but I can't, so call the restaurant instead at (281) 993-1779.

P.S.S. Click2Houston is conducting their annual "best of" contest and we are up for Best Cajun/Creole restuarant and we could use your help. Just click here and vote. Thanks

This is an old pic. Give them a break.

Jambalaya and Crawfish at O'Cajcen in Pearland

Today I continued my adventures out here in Louisiana seeing what this so called "real cajun food" is. I know I've definitely been hitting the wrong places the last couple of days.

Tonight for dinner, I tried a little place calle the Jambalaya Shoppe in Gonzales, LA. And guess what they had on their menu. Small Jambalaya, medium jambalaya, large jambalaya, and family sized jambalaya. Wow! All the choices! Well, judging by how many people are stopped here every day, the fact that they've been opening for years and that they sell only one item, this place has to be good!

Well, I got home with my small sized $6.50, and started to chow down. Luckily I was starving or I would not have completed half of it. I mean it was edible but lacked flavor. It seemed like just spice. No, we don't have jamabalaya at O'Cajcen but if we did, it definitely wouldn't taste like that or I would take it off the menu.

Didn't think I would say it...but I miss our Gumbo! I miss the tasty O'Cajcen gumbo that actually has both spice and flavor.

Well tomorrow I'm gonna try a place that sells boiled crawfish and shrimp and see how those compare to the Best Crawfish in Houston from O'Cajcen.

Just in case you don't know yet...Crawfish are back at O'Cajcen Seafood in Pearland.

Look at this email I just received yesterday from Cheryl in Pearland.

"You are right! Your crawfish are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband, daughter and I went in on Sunday the 11 and they were excellent. We had 7 pounds taking the last 2 pounds. We always ask for extra spicy and we get what we ask for. Keep it up! Size and taste were great!"

So don't just take my word for it. Come try Citysearch.com's Best Crawfish in Houston at O'Cajcen. We are serving them up hot.

Why choose O'Cajcen Seafood Crawfish in Pearland?

Hi its John Barry, owner of O'Cajcen Seafood, and I have some great news for ya.

Starting this past Saturday, we got our 1st batch of crawfish in. De-lish.

They are medium size right now and from what I tasted. They were awesome... I know I'm a little biased. But from what the customers told me...they agreed. And selling out without even announcing it proves it to me that they were that good.

Now remember...when buying crawfish somethings you need to find out is...
1) Are they boiled New Orleans style, with the taste soaked all the way through the meat and not just sprinkled on top?
That's how we do it here at O'Cajcen.

2) Do they weigh corn and potatoes along with the crawfish?
Here at O'Cajcen when u ask for 2lbs. We weigh two pounds and   then give u the corn and taters, not like some people down
the road.

3) Do they take the dead crawfish out before cooking?
We try to clean them three times and always try to get all the   dead ones out before cooking. Many places just dump them
straight in the water. (Gross!)

4) Are they award winning crawfish?
O'Cajcen's crawfish won Citysearch.com's best crawfish in all
of HOUSTON in 07.

5) Do they offer a guarantee?
If you don't love ours we'll make it right or we'll give you   your money back!

Well, I gotta run...but if you got that craving again. We have the crawfish back in now. Just give us a call us at (281) 627-8828 to make sure we have some before you come in.
