This Christmas falls on the perfect day. Tuesday. That means two days in a row for me and my staff to have off to spend with their family and friends. Yes, we will be closed the 24th and 25th. Also on the 31st, New Years Eve. The staff really needs to rest up for the busy year ahead. Crawfish is back, Lent and Mardi Gras is coming!
This year's holidays won't be as festive as previous ones. My son will be in Austin this Christmas, so instead of just staying home these holidays, I wanted to go out and help, do some community service. If you have or know of any opportunities please leave a comment. Thanks to everyone and hope you have great holidays.

Off to a Good Crawfish Start!
We have only been serving boiled crawfish for a couple of days now, but they are already going good. I've made sure we have plenty in stock for all to enjoy. I was very surprised at the size of them already. Most of the crawfish are a good medium for this time of year. Of course mixed in are a couple of little ones as well as some big monsters. So, if you are in the Pearland area and in the mood for some good mudbugs, swing on over. Our recipe and cooking style came directly from my uncle's restaurant in New Orleans.
Here's to a great weekend. Don't forget, only 10 shopping days left!?!!!

Crawfish Starts Tues. Dec 11th @ O'Cajcen

What better surprise can you ask for during these holidays? Its the time to come together and enjoy each other's company. The way I enjoy other's company is around a table with some O'Cajcen's boiled crawfish with some ice cold beverages. Well guess what? You will have your chance starting on Tuesday Dec 11th. We will be taking our 1st delievery of the mudbugs some time during the day. I'm not positive of when we will have our 1st batch available but they should be ready before 4pm. We will try to have crawfish everyday of the week. At the beginning of the season it is hard to get deliveries every day, plus we can sell out quickly. Remember, we are still closed Mondays until further notice.
For the first couple of weeks supplies will be limited, so make sure to call us to see if we have any in. (281) 993-1779. Don't forget, we can always do them to go. Also, since it's the beginning of the season and for us to be able to keep the price down low for you guys, we will not be offering any discounts on the crawfish at this time. Wait until after Santa has stopped in.
P.S. Crawfish will be here Tuesday. Don't forget to read the post below about the status of crawfish season. Not sure how the season will turn out, but it seems okay to me so far. See you soon!
P.S.S. If you are going to get crawfish anywhere, it mind as well be from citysearch.com's "Best Crawfish in Houston!" ;-)

Did you know...

That gift cards are the third most requested gift on a person's list, right behind money and jewelry? Neither did I – I thought they'd be at least number 2. When did it become appropriate to ask for cash? ("This year I want 100 smackers instead of another sweater vest. Got it, Nana?")
Anyway, if you're looking for something to give this holiday season, why not give your loved ones their #3 choice – a O'Cajcen gift card! It's darn tasty, it's spunky, it's colorful. What's not to like? In fact, it's the perfect gift for all occasions. Just look at the many ways you can use your gift card:
*Tip your way to better service. Tip the garbagemen! Tip the babysitter! Tip your parole officer! Tip the cosmetic surgeon! (This one is key.) Tip your neighbor! Tip your children! Tip your 57 year old paperboy!
*Thank all your fabulous employees with a O'Cajcen gift card. And go ahead, give them a bonus, too. They deserve it. (I find that people really like it when you tell them what to do.)
*Bribe your way to A's! Give all your teachers O'Cajcen gift cards and watch the good grades flow. Or get suspended. One of the two.
*Buy a O'Cajcen gift card for yourself. Just because it's a gift card doesn't mean it has to be a gift for someone else. (That's a touching holiday sentiment, isn't it?)
Now go out and get a O'Cajcen gift card.

Bam! 'Emeril Live' is history
New Orleans News: High Crawfish Prices Predicted
If you are going to have to pay a little more than normal, you mind as well come to the winner of the "Best Crawfish in Houston" (voted by citysearch.com). Here's another article that shows 2008 might not be the best year for crawfish, but at O'Cajcen in Pearland, we will strive to make it the best around again.
Here's an excerpt:
"Consumers will likely be paying more for crawfish this season.
A dry summer and the high cost of diesel have made it too expensive to pump enough water into crawfish ponds, driving up prices as a result."

Bad News for the Crawfish Season

I just got whiff of this story. This can be bad news to the Crawfish lovers. Let's hope this gets better. This article is from The Shreveport Times.
It's not the best of news as the south Louisiana crawfish harvest gets under way.
Consumers will likely pay more for their crawfish this year, and there may not be as many of them, according to Steve Minville, executive director of the Louisiana Crawfish Producers Association.
The primary culprits are a dry summer and the cost of diesel that made it too expensive to pump enough water into them, according to Mark Shirley, LSU AgCenter aquaculture specialist.
"Crawfish are going to cost a bunch more this year," Shirley says.
The price has to go up or the producers will have to go out of business, Minville says.
"Last year, fewer than 5 percent of the crawfish producers covered their expenses," Minville says. "You can't go on like that."

O'Cajcen in Pearland - Best Crawfish in Houston 2007

This weekend it was finally made official. After it has been displayed on their website, we received official confirmation. 2007 Citysearch.com's Best Crawfish in Houston - People's Choice is O'Cajcen Seafood in Pearland. We received a letter in the mail as well as a sign to display our award. Now the only thing we are waiting for is the crawfish to come back. Keep your fingers crossed. My uncle said they are serving them already in New Orleans. Our crawfish drivers also said we should have them in by the end of the year. So get out your bibs and get ready to start peelin’. These crawfish are going to be better than ever.
